Alison Edgar was born in Clydebank, Scotland, the same town which saw the birth of the QE2, Wet Wet Wet, and one of the UK’s most famous entrepreneurs, Duncan Bannatyne.
As a dyslexic, school was always difficult, so at the age of 16, Alison’s love of people led her to leave school and enter the world of hospitality; within a few years she managed hotels in Cape Town, Sydney, Ayers Rock and the Channel Islands. It was on her return to the UK that she found her calling for sales and became a top performer with some of the world’s best-known blue chip companies.
This was where her love of entrepreneurship and small businesses began. On a daily basis for over 30 years she would be embroiled in what business people did, and how and why they did it that way. During this time she discovered many businesses didn’t understand the difference between sales and marketing. They were heavily reliant on marketing to make the phone ring, but when it didn’t, they did not know how to sell proactively and all too frequently went out of business. In characteristic fashion, she thought ‘not on my watch’ and decided to do something about it.
So Alison became ‘The Entrepreneur’s Godmother’, giving entrepreneurs the skills they need to sell their fantastic products and services. Working with her, some of her clients have gone on to create multi-million-pound companies.
